Richard Dawkins has spent decades yelling at Christians about nursery stories, only to cry himself to sleep because someone said gender isn’t decided by a magic chromosome fairy.

@Daojoan
Dawkins seems, outside of his area of academic expertise, to be a publicity seeking bully. Even his year as the Atheist Primate was odiferous.That his thinking is so confined that he seeks to set up one aspect of sex/gender as the only valid one is unfortunate. But not a huge surprise.
Hope he disappears for the rest of the 2020s.

@Daojoan What Dawkins calls science is a religion. The delightful Mary Midgely was on to his game from the 70s.
Comfortingly simplistic fairy tales have been his stock in trade all his life. It's a straight line from selfish genes through New Atheism, transhumanism, and tech bro neo-fascism.

@Daojoan He is one of those people who may be very good in his own area, but assumes that the rest of the world is the same as his small specialism.
And he really shows how little he understands anything outside that. Which makes me wonder how much he actually understands his own specialism - because no subject, no area is isolated.

@Daojoan It saddens me. His science books were so delightfully illuminating, God Delusion and his appearances in YouTube videos circa 2009-12 helped me as a young doubter struggling with religion. And now.... this shit.

@Daojoan
I don't know why these always surprise me but these always surprise me. I think maybe there are some kinds of disappointment that always hit no matter what. (In fairness, in dawkins's case he was obviously a shitheel already, but still.Another one that really got me was Richard K. Morgan. Dude writes books about storing consciousness in hardware and swapping bodies at will, or living out entire virtual lives, and then gets banned from Twitter for being a monumental transphobe.
It's just bizarre that people who have obviously given a lot of thought to both the current state and future state of humanity live these incredibly tiny, closed-off lives.
