It's a symbol to these people. They don't even think about its usefulness, because they were told that they have no use.
So to them they see a person wearing a mask as an instant enemy.

Doubtful. I still have two boxes. After a bit they weren't hard to get. We didn't know how long we would need them.

I fucking loved the lock down. Masks? No more faking facial expressions. Social Distancing? I didn't have to pretend to care about people. "Working" from home? So simple and I got to spend a year home with my new baby.
It was glorious and I miss it.
