Protesting the dangers and harm we are facing is good, but we're not going to get anywhere demanding the mega corps continue running their prisons like boutiques with the free hors d'oeuvres. What's worse than being an entitled consumer is being an entitled wannabe-consumer – while actually being the product – loudly demanding to "speak to the manager". Glossing over libre, open movements is a given with that mindset and its quite sad.
I agree with what @noracodes is saying here: https://tenforward.social/@noracodes/113680824026001100 but much of the annoyance arises because FOSS coders are primarily making commitments (standard interfaces) to each other, while not committing to things like UIs. Its why even power users (an under-appreciated demo in FOSS) find Linux et al too chaotic or limiting: GUI skills don't seem transferable between machines. The Android experience has provided a clue that this barrier can be overcome, but no one is taking note.
So here we are, a social network largely composed of Linux and BSD users, separated from most people by a chasm of attitudes.

And why is that? Is it because people just don't care, or because they're volunteers solving their own problems and the problems of the communities they're in?
Can you imagine if, say, the GNOME foundation got one-100th as much funding as the Office 365 team gets in a year? We'd be in society_if.jpg in a jiffy.
