Hi.

Hi. Please remember to add alt text to photos. And please make it more than “a dog” or just the punchline of whatever visual pun/joke. Describe it in detail, as if to a person who can’t see it - because that’s who we add alt text for.
Thanks.

I've seen how someone is trying to use AI for alt-txt. An actual good idea, I think to use for something so vital... If it works.
Automating alt-txt would be super good

@bob @adhdeanasl Really wish this was a default option upon posting an image. Most people (myself included) tend to forget alt text.

@sandwich @bob @adhdeanasl glad to see you two promoting this idea.
Most are throwing hate at a tool so much that they refuse to even see if that hate is warranted in all cases.
Alt text via AI does MUCH better than I could even dream of doing and I feel so blessed that I discovered I could use it that way.

@BeAware @sandwich @bob @adhdeanasl Agreed here. Also, while I tend to write my own descriptions, fast descriptions would let me post/discuss more images - there's so many times I see something interesting I want to share or discuss (or even something I've created) and I feel too tired to do an in-depth alt-text
And that's not discounting personal, human-made descriptions and all the love and attention that goes into that. Those are awesome and the best, still, *for* all that goes into them

@mybarkingdogs @sandwich @bob @adhdeanasl I use ChatGPT for almost *all* of my alt texts. It's as simple as uploading the image and asking "describe this image for the visually impaired". If there's something specific you want mentioned to add context to the image say "describe this image for the visually impaired, make sure to describe it as...." Or "...make sure to add the context of..." And a short explanation. It will understand.
For an example, I've been uploading screenshots of Minecraft on a very specific popular server. I tell it "describe this image for the visually impaired, make sure to describe it as a screenshot from the 2b2t Minecraft server" and it knew exactly what the server was about and how to describe it 100% correctly.

@BeAware @mybarkingdogs @bob @adhdeanasl That’s a brilliant idea; I don’t know why I haven’t been doing that.
I believe the @IceCubesApp will do this for you as well, which was one of the reasons I enjoyed using it.

@sandwich @mybarkingdogs @bob @adhdeanasl it does, but since they have to go through the API, it costs them money, I think. So the descriptions are short and can't be customized.
If done through ChatGPT yourself, it's very customizable to your needs.
