Our second episode of The Fediverse Files is out now. It's an interview with @evan, the co-author of #ActivityPub, about the future of the #fediverse. Tune in to learn how open protocols like ActivityPub make the web more open and user-centric. https://youtu.be/nLqwKph7Sxk?si=tT6ix1yuQAfNXj8H #FediverseFiles

If any developers enjoyed our interview and would like to learn more about building social apps in the #fediverse, I highly recommend @evan's new book on #ActivityPub (published by @OReillyMedia). More info here https://www.oreilly.com/library/view/activitypub/9781098162733/

@jessamyn @evan right on, thanks so much for watching! I'm a big fan of RSS (in case you couldn't tell) and thinking of #ActivityPub as a two-way version of #RSS really helped me wrap my ahead around it.
-
@docpop @jessamyn @evan It also made me realize that my email analogy (you don’t need a Gmail account to email with someone at Gmail) is doomed by familiarity. Everyone knows what email is, but while everyone knows podcasting, they don’t all know RSS. “This powerful tech has been right under your noses, and this new powerful tech is quite similar,” goes much further.

@docpop @jessamyn @evan another great video thank you. TrueFans my own podcast super app is launching our ActivityPub server this month. We pull in podcasts, music, courses, films etc all using RSS. Checkout Podcasting2.org for new metadata tags updates that update RSS for Podcasting.
In TrueFans we use the ActivityStream concept for each user. We have created/extended the ActivityStream namespace to include 30 new verbs for podcasting. Sam played Podcast2.0 for 60 mins and paid §1000 sats.

@docpop @jessamyn @evan With our new ActivityPub Server we will allow users to publish their Activity to any AP client. This is a great way to share my podcast activity to people who follow me #discovery
We also have the concept of an inbox and it means I can follow people and see their Activity.

@kubikpixel @docpop @jessamyn @evan If I had to guess, since the video series introduces and teaches people with no (or little) knowledge about the Fediverse, it makes sense to have it on YouTube. If you already use PeerTube, you probably already know what it’s going to cover.

@macmanx @kubikpixel there's that, plus I think big companies like to move slowly when looking at new software/platforms/tools. Legal needs to get involved, devs need to okay, marketing needs to understand it, etc.
I'm not an Automattic employee, so I can't speak for them. Just basing that on what I've seen at other companies.
