I am back from bsky to report on something that I'm upset fedi doesn't have. The ability to draft reply threads. Now, I know fedi instances can have insane character limits (this one has 100k) but it would be a useful feature because I commonly find myself splitting my long reply threads to 1-2 paragraphs each just to reduce clutter. It'd also be helpful for those on software like mastodon (using the default character limit) to compose threads relatively easily. This doesn't require any protocol changes and simply just needs to be incorporated in the ui.

@[email protected] there are clients like @[email protected] that allow this
-
@[email protected] but why not just increase the limit
-
@[email protected] @[email protected] i figured but i would prefer to use the native webui when i can
-
@[email protected] that'd make too much sense (the limit actually does make sense if you consider mobile and other places where scrolling past huge blocks of text can be a problem. threads usually have a limited amount of space which helps ease this also "read more" and collapsing long posts but not everyone implements such things)
-
@[email protected] i mean personally i did raise the limit. you are allowed to have 100k characters per post. that's more than reasonable. nobody should realistically be hitting that limit and if they are i beg of them to split it into a thread
-
@puppygirlhornypost2 i disagree because people who post threads should be crushed by a comically large cartoon anvil
-
@[email protected] you just made a thread. get anvil'd
-
@julia @puppygirlhornypost2 my instance has a 5k character limit and i still find myself making threads all of the time, they're just meaningfully different from wall-of-text kind of posts
