Please nerd-snipe me.

@Edent You can use GearLever for that: https://github.com/mijorus/gearlever
-
Simple: Don't use AppImages, they're the second to worst package system out there.
-
@Edent I try to avoid AppImage at all costs, but if there's absolutely no other option then Gear Lever (https://flathub.org/apps/it.mijorus.gearlever) makes the experience slightly more bearable

@Edent
I haven't used AppImage applications in a while, but my last experience with them was pretty straightforward. Step 1, download the file. Step 2, make it executable, you can do this in GNOME by right clicking the file and accessing it's properties. Step 3, use the GNOME launcher to run it, by default it indexes files in you home directory, so it should be able to find it without need for extra configuration. -

@Edent The few times I've used an AppImage I gave it execute permission and it executed.
Was it integrated into the desktop? Of course not.
Not Invented Here, you know.

@Corb_The_Lesser was that intended to be a helpful comment? Or are you just looking for someone to talk at?
-
@Edent It was intended to note the reason you need to ask that question.
-
@Edent I believe this might solve your issue: https://flathub.org/apps/it.mijorus.gearlever
-
@joojmachine perfect, thanks!

@Edent @wraptile I have, yes, and no.
It hasn't been updated in ages, and the PPA is 'unsupported', also the shipping binary is broken (it spams your journal every 30 seconds iirc) and seems unfixed (see above about no new releases). I removed it in the end. https://github.com/TheAssassin/AppImageLauncher/issues/600
