The Liberals will not form the next government. Both Freeland and Carney would be suicidal to take on the Liberal leadership right now. If they want a chance to make their mark, then they need to be looking to the election after the next one.
If they are smart, and I believe both are, when the leadership race begins, they do their best to make it a believable campaign… but eventually rally around a third, say Christy Clark or some other person.
Let that person take the fall. Then prepare for the real leadership race in 24-48 months.
Could Chrystia Freeland save the sinking Liberals? Canadians think she’s Trudeau’s most viable successor, poll suggests
Given the choice between six potential candidates, respondents felt Freeland was most likely to improve the party’s chances of success in the next election.

@chris I think the true failing is that the liberal MPs are too conservative, too centrist, too wedded to playing the same strategies forever...

@martin_fff @chris they are all looking at this like the public is deranged, when they don't realize the public has BEEN deranged - and also think as SoMe is going hard right they have to as well (which is where the money is coming from) - they go even middling left, it's a win - but they seriously are terrified of actual social programs

@chris At this point I’d say the best move for the Liberals is to let Trudeau take the fall and then have an immediate leadership race following the election*. They need to be able to form an effective opposition quickly.
*Presuming an immediate fall of the government when Parliament resumes that could be in early March.

@chris A lot of people have been contemplating a fall for Christy Clark, but something less metaphorical. That would just be that nagging little devil on my left shoulder hissing into my ear.

Would it be nobler in the heart for Trudeau to take the fall before or after an election? What's the value of nobility when up against a repulsive liar like Poilievre?
Financial types do not make good political leaders. Neither Freeland nor Carney should run. Christy Clark would be as dumb a choice as the Ontario Libs electing Bonnie Crombie.
