@Mike McCue If you really want to push it to the limit, here are two suggestions.
@Mike Macgirvin ️ has been a Fediverse developer for 14 years. He has created three Fediverse protocols, he has invented nomadic identity, he has created a whole bunch of Fediverse server applications from Mistpark, today known as Friendica, to Hubzilla to the streams repository to Forte most recently, all forked from each other. He currently maintains the latter two.
He's on (streams) himself, but his channel is still an "old school" one without FEP-ef61 implemented and without its DID scheme.
Also, there is @silverpill, the creator and maintainer of Mitra. Apart from (streams) and Forte, Mitra is the only other Fediverse project that's working on implementing FEP-ef61 and nomadic identity via ActivityPub. Of course, he's on Mitra himself. And unlike (streams), Mitra has switched existing actors to FEP-ef61 on recent versions.
This means that you can not only test Flipboard's compatibility with Mitra, but you can also test Flipboard's compatibility with FEP-ef61 and its DID scheme. Keep in mind, though, that it's still very much a work in progress, and it may change.
Unfortunately, I don't know any (streams) channels with a DID right off the bat that could be interesting for Flipboard. I have two myself, but they're uninteresting.

Correction: Mitra still uses non-nomadic actors by default. I think implementation of FEP-ef61 in (streams) is actually much closer to completion.

@kylo what did you want to tag me for? I don't think you answered Mike's question.

@innkeeper @jejord @AileenLalor @miaq @marci @creative_commons_music @linuxgameralpha @superdicq @glitchfoss @harrybo super helpful! Thanks for mentioning these. We'll make sure these render well in Flipboard and then feature them to our users. Not nearly enough people know about #PeerTube.

Agreed. I feel like a big part of the problem though is lack of content, mainly because of people not wanting to take on the cost of video hosting. That could be a solvable issue though if we make use of the opportunity of the many users who would happily help provide storage and bandwidth if it was dirt simple, easy.
-
I'd love to see an official *Desktop* Peertube app, with video viewing, commenting and uploading functionality, but also with a single configuration click that let people automatically seed Peertube videos from their desktop.
It could be taken one step further afterwards, by letting instances upload directly to the shared community storage rather than needing their own. You'd see an explosion of content, which would bring more viewers.
-
You may need to provide a benefit to bandwidth providers if the network started getting saturated though. Non financial/vanity, so it didn't encourage fraud, but maybe something like badges when commenting, based on what percentile they were in for providing community bandwidth.
Down the line it would also be great to see Podcasting 2.0 style streaming sats for viewed minutes, but that's probably better off offloaded to a Peertube plugin.

@Blort These are fantastic points. Video storage, uploading and streaming is quite expensive to do and needs some kind of business model to support it at scale. This is one reason why I think a federated Patreon would be a huge unlock for expansion and health of the fediverse and video creators.
