This reminds me that prior to Biden stepping down, I thought Kamala wouldn’t be a great choice for a candidate because she didn’t even rank in the 2020 Democratic primaries.

However the outpouring of online support made me change my mind.
It turns out the online support was either a bubble or fleeting as she had a clear enthusiasm gap among Democratic voters in the actual election.

@carnage4life From my position as a close but external observer, it seems to me as though it was very much Fleeting.
When Harris was initially announced, most seemed to be willing to give her a chance to try and build a coalition of voters as happened with Biden in 2020.
But as the Democratic party machinery kept courting more and more republicans and conservatives, they kept telling more and more vulnerable people that they didn't matter: see the whole economic forecast entirely focused on helping the Middle class, with barely a half-sentance clause acknowledging that Working class folks would still be struggling. Throwing Trans folks under the bus. Telling those that wanted to stop the Palestinian genocide that they were being anti-semitic etc. Schumer's comment about for every blue collar voter they lose they pick up 2 ex-Republicans (paraphrased) should have been a big red flag.
So that initial willingness to give her a chance ebbed away. Here in our online bubbles it's easy to miss that the -number- of supporting voices dropped off as the campaign ran, but the volume of pro-Harris posts from the (mostly middle class) supporters increased to fill that gap. It gave the illusion that there was still broad coalition support unless you were paying close attention.
Progressives are largely winning their races. But it seems inevitable that the Dems will learn the opposite lesson and move further to the right to become the second fascist party America doesn't need.

I think this nails it. That and the media's inability to do anything but twirl in response to spin from Trump and his campaign. (Look how the fake outrage over "garbage" got thinkpieces about how Biden's latest gaffe hurt the campaign, letting the _actual Nazi rhetoric_ become yesterday's news.)
