@TheWarOnCars And once again we see the Washington Post's passive voice when it comes to traffic violence: the driver didn't hit the girl, but rather "A 12-year-old girl was hit by a car," as if we already have autonomous vehicles and there was no human driver involved at all.
And with the high number of speeding tickets being issued, perhaps it's time for D.C. to change their infrastructure such that speeding = risk of damaging one's car. The cameras don't seem to be making a difference.

Personally, I like the Swiss, who set the fine proportional to the wealth of the offender.
And certainly believe criminal penalties are appropriate to consider for those who ignore citations for multiple hazardous moving violations.
