@wdlindsy If I follow everything heβs been saying, the βwhole purposeβ of women is to have children, apparently so many that the no-longer-fertile ones have to care for them.

@HotTubMemeMachine Yes, that sums it up in a nutshell, and it's deeply embedded in the right-wing Catholic theology into which he now buys as a convert to Catholicism.

@CloudyMrs Isn't it amazing how, over and over, the most bitterly homophobic men turn out to be closeted, self-loathing gay men?

@Kierkegaanks It is, indeed, shocking. But so many mediocre men, especially if they're heterosexual and white, seem to rise to the top like loathsome detritus as a pot of something ferments and rots. It's wearingly predictable in the world they have made to serve their own needs and to represent "reality" and "nature" and "God" to the rest of us.

@Oldfartrant Aren't you glad it has a name, too? Otherwise, he'd be cozying up to nameless furniture!

@drdogbot7 More like a raging river of misogyny than an undercurrent, isn't it? Putting anyone in a biological prison with claims that nature made them for this or that purpose β which the definer always presumes to define β is just so horrific.

@wdlindsy when I was a kid mother always referred to the sofa as The Chesterfield, I guess she was a bit pretentious. This left me thinking sofa, couch and Chesterfield were synonymous, which they are but the brand name is a subset of the other two. This was hilarious when I went to the US and called their sofa a Chesterfield.

@Oldfartrant I love the term Chesterfield for what I grew up hearing called a sofa or a couch. I had never encountered the Chesterfield term until I went as a graduate student to Toronto in 1978. At first, I had no idea what people meant when they talked about sitting on the Chesterfield, but then I became enlightened!
