Tricky, since the actual page titles are hardcoded here, but you can modify this file on your local install...

@betro-hakala I don't even know what you want to be transparent. Also, if you are using Vanilla theme (not Persona) then the theme's options won't be in NodeBB Category options, those are completely different.
Could you send a screenshot of what you want transparent? That would help us help you.

@CaptainK Sadly users will do the easiest thing and teaching them sadly isn't going to work. Would be nice to have a setting that limits how deep quotes can go.

This is intentional, as an empty homepage is not a typical user scenario. You can hide the categories label via custom CSS, or custom JS if you want to hide it only when there are no categories.

Ah!

Would it make more sense to have all categories unwatched by default, as opposed to watched?

I actually saw the "Ignore" icon before, but didn't realize what it did. I thought it was something about ignoring users -- so I ignored it 😄
