"Trump's pitch to women is getting weirder and weirderIt's like he's trying to hypnotize people into forgetting he took away their rights.

Of course, we all know that the best way to be heard above the crowd is to say it LOUDEST. In fact, charlatans know that saying any gibberish in a confident, l believe what l'm saying manner, increases the chance that the crowd \ audience will believe in you.
The grown ups, or rather the people that are not interested in spreading lies & are more interested in the truth, to the best of their knowledge, don't base their hope on faith (alone), in a cause or a person.

@ScienceCommunicator @TCatInReality Yes. When people want to claim that they're pushing a moral argument but are using coercion or deceit to push it, they're undermining the very basis of a moral argument, which has to be based on compelling reason and respectful dialogue with those one's trying to convince.

@wdlindsy these are all reminiscent of the rhetoric of domestic abusers. Telling someone that they are the only one who will protect you while actively causing you harm. I hope enough of his audience recognizes this and turns away

"How can news outlets accurately convey the rambling and nonfactual nature of a Trump rally? I think The Washington Post's Marianne LeVine handled it well here. The headline describes 'digressions, threats and vows to be 'protector' of women.'"

"At Trump's event in Pennsylvania last night, the candidate 'swerved repeatedly,' butchered his rival's name, 'once again cast doubt about the election results,' and 'complained that Fox News follows his appearances with
"horrible commercials."'Perhaps the most newsworthy part of the rally: When Trump criticized immigration and invoked Springfield, Ohio, attendees chanted 'send them back.'"
That's what they care about: bashing immigrants.

@bebadefabo Yes, that's what I hear, too, when I hear this language of "protecting" women that reeks of paternalism — turning women into helpless objects to be "protected" by men who control and own them. The unfortunate thing is that a lot of Americans are conditioned by longstanding cultural norms re: gender and religion to buy into this way of thinking, women included.

@HarriettMB Separation of church and state is very much under attack, with leading luminaries on the right like pseudo-historian David Barton claiming it's not even there in the nation's foundational documents.

The bit about "horrible commercials" is instructive. This "free market capitalist" really pines for State Media, where he can control/restrict all content and information.
For a guy who tries to paint the opposition as radial leftists and communists, Trump's approach to media is a page taken straight from the Lenin-Stalin playbook.

The more paternalistic, misogynistic, hateful and racist Trump's rhetorics get
the less important it seems to be how reasonable and sound his arguments are. It's not about any kind of debate, it's a method of impressing people with the arrogance of power thereby recommending himself as the coming leader of a nation firmly grounded in national chauvinistic, social darwinistic and patrirarchal norms.Acting irrational and winning against the notion that sound and rational choices are the assumed preference of a democratic society shows that the admiration of #Trump the white and male leader is based on protofascistic beliefs and not any kind of rational discourse.
This is what makes "post-truth politics" imo so powerful - they just don't care anymore about the relevance of building political decisions on equal say and representation - #MAGA is driven by sheer power dynamics what turns the incitement of racist violence and antifeminist hatred into a weapon of most dangerous effectiveness.

“He has taken the rights of women in America, rights common throughout the modern world, away and given them to Republican politicians. They, them, Republican men get to choose now, not women and their doctors. And as bad it is for the women of America today, it will get worse, far far worse if Trump and Vance win.”

"What the MAGAs conveniently forget is that 'abortion access' is about more than abortion. Women need and deserve all manner of reproductive health programs, including birth control, and about 20% of pregnancies end in miscarriage, which often need medical assistance to remove any fetal tissue from the woman’s body thoroughly."
