People who were at #38c3: Please check yourself for flu, especially if youβre feeling shit. Anti-pyretics (Ibuprofen, Aspirin) are first line treatment. Antihistamines can help with any inflamation. Vitamin D and C are always good things to take to aid your immune system.
Drink lots of electrolytes if possible, water if not. Watch your body temperature - your instincts will be to wrap up tight because you feel cold and that is not a good idea if your body temperature is already elevated.
If youβre already on anti-retrovirals (e.g. PrEP) remember to take them, they can help with some viral infections.

@erincandescent do we know why the body tries to flush out viruses with heat? it appears from modern medical perspective not to help; but there must be a reason we have this system?
My best guess without any meaningful biology study is that it relates to the gut? It encourages us to hydrate, while making us nauseus and not wanting to eat (more of something that *could be making us feel sick)
*in this case we should assume weve canceled out food poisoning.

@erincandescent could just encourage rest I guess. Hot makes you seek shade and avoid working hard

@freedomtux reserarch says that some aspects of our immune system are temperature mediated but those tend to trigger above 37C or so, so higher fevers donβt seem to be additionally helpful

the rest of the advice is good but from what I've read the most recent evidence/guidelines around fevers is that lowering them is counterproductive when there is infection, so unless the fever is really high to where it might actually become dangerous then just letting the body be hot is good, no cold showers or stripping layers, just stay comfy
(of course check your temp and make sure it's in the safe range)

@Clover yesterday at points me & the other person infected were pushing close to or slightly into the danger zone (40C) so like I think they are well worth it in that sort of situation
