How can I set a post's privacy to only be visible to people I follow? I see how to set it to only my followers, but I don't (and don't want to) choose who follows me.

@Treppenwitz that's not an option because posts aren't sent to people you follow as they didn't request them.

Good grief, it's youreplied to BeAware :fediverse: last edited by
@BeAware The scenario I'm imagining is:
1. Alice posts almost entirely privately on her own account.
2. Alice follows and comments publicly on Bob's posts, and would appreciate his comments on her posts.
3. Bob takes notice and looks at her posts, but he only sees her bland public posts every few months. So he doesn't bother following back.
4. And even if he did, Alice would either have to:
A. Post followers-only, which would also give her ex, Carla, access to her semi-private posts. (Sure, she could block Carla, but that means a tearful hour-long conversation. You know how Carla is.) or
B. Post "private mention" and painstakingly add all of the people she follows, which -- wouldn't that alert them also? The reason I'm interested in this is because I'd like to share more of my life here. Make it more of a #Facebook replacement.
Sorry, I wrote a lot. I think I may have a misunderstanding about how privacy works on Mastodon.

@Treppenwitz hmmm...maybe one of the Facebook Fediverse clones would be a better option, though I don't know what privacy options are like there because I don't use it.
Friendica is the most popular.

@BeAware @Treppenwitz With Friendica you can define Circles to which you can post specifically.
Friendica Tutorial 6 of 6: Friendica is also a G+ alternative! Circles and RSS feeds
