"While I understand and agree with those who say that no child should be mocked for being proud of their dad, I also think that Gus Walz’s neurodivergence does matter here. Republican partisanship, hate, and misogyny in this instance were also linked t...

@wdlindsy Perhaps. But the GOP is trapped in a cult of toxic masculinity and they would have gone after a neurotypical son who was overcome by the emotion of the moment in the same way (or even deny that boys and men who express emotions other than anger can be considered typical).
-
@not2b Perhaps. I suspect there is a special level of vituperation at work here and that Noah Berlatsky is right when he says that has everything to do with Gus Walz's neurodivergence.

@RickiTarr "It should be ugly for everyone, unquestionably." The thing is, I think the vast majority of MAGA do not know that Trump has a neurodivergent son.

@lolonurse Yes, you're right. And think of how the very same set of folks mocked and still mock Biden mercilessly because he deals with a stutter. Adam Sewer really hit the nail on the head when he said that for the Maga movement, cruelty is the point.

@tstrike78 I'm glad you were able eventually to rise out of all of that, as I was, too, just by growing up. Like you, a lesson it taught me is the importance of trying to be kind to everyone and especially those being knocked down and overlooked. I also learned that bullies are essentially empty people and when you stand up to them, they back down.

I think a lot about how, before TFG became involved in politics, people like John McCain, Bob Dole, even Tammy Duckworth (I say "even" only bc she's a woman & we don't count as much) were heroes. Now they're suckers & losers. I wonder if Gabby Giffords is, too.
I wonder if they know that Winston Churchill, King George VI, Marilyn Monroe & other accomplished & important people stuttered, too. (& Lewis Carroll) Feh on all MAGAts! -

@lolonurse Yes, isn't that amazing. It's as if what he touches and what his followers touch rots right away — long-cherished ideals, social restrictions that forbid us to be openly cruel and hostile to others, faith in the truth itself, respect for learning and libraries: you name it.

Sort of Don Draper meets Joffrey meets Caligula. -

@lolonurse Oh, a great congeries of images, each of which, surprisingly (since I can be dumb when it comes to pop culture), I understood. I did watch Mad Men with fascination, and couldn't stop reading Game of Thrones.
