@aud it is a special kind of hell

I really liked my job in Barcelona. It just turns out I liked my spouse more.

@[email protected] just scrolling through my feed and seeing the most socially awful tech booster shit. People excited about ML models that can instantly clone any voice. etc. Just... god.

@aud yeah exactly. A pit of the worst-business-people endlessly selling each other on the most morally bankrupt ideas.

@[email protected] It would be convenient, job wise, if my capacity for bullshit hadn't eroded down to 0. I feel tired just looking at all this crap.
I have a little time, thankfully, so I'm hoping I can find something that's actually a good fit... hahaha. I wonder what working as a barista pays here? -

@aud lol right? Every listing that is buying in on AI hype I skip...which leaves like 2 jobs a day. It's soul sucking.
Barista sounds nice! Real people. Tangible work. Get to make things people enjoy. Make little foamy arts.
I have seriously but not seriously priced out the cost of setting up a woodshop instead.

@[email protected] it's funny you say that, because I recently started trying to learn to whittle. I always loved sculptures but figured marble is a little out of my price range...
It'd be nice to find something research related; something where I get to help, or get to actually perform, research. Maybe I SHOULD look back into finishing my freaking PhD. Hah. -

@aud that's cool! There's lots of materials for sculpture that are less pricey. Modeling clay that you can mold when warm and then dries hard for sculpting is very nice: https://chavant.com/chavant-nsp
I did my undergrad in fine art and loved that stuff.
Whittling is sick tho. Is it spooky using the knives?

@[email protected] ah! I had oddly forgotten about clay. I might have to give that clay a try! Thank you!
I admit that using the knife is a big part of the appeal itβs fun to get to take material off! Plus you can, in theory, do it with found materials (assuming you live where such things are available) so it seemed like a good start. I did end up buying some wood blocks to hack at, though.
