I cannot emphasize strongly enough how much every leader needs a person who can tell them it is time to stop talking

Even if you don't have that person, you can still learn to look for the signs. When you feel that you MUST talk. That ONLY YOU can SET THE RECORD STRAIGHT. Those are generally good signs that you need to stop talking right now

PhotoMatt is also hip-deep in the comments threads on HN. Man. Stop talking. You need to STOP TALKING

One HN user actually has some legitimately very good life advice for him, which (to put it mildly) is not the sort of thing you expect to find on HN.
Will he take it? At this stage I'm guessing probably not

@[email protected] … ohhhh, that is… not good.
-
@jalefkowit most of HN is united in "holy shit matt what are you doing?!"
-
@dysfun When your "swashbuckling founder" shit has lost the HN crowd, that is a big red blinking warning light that you need to reevaluate

@jalefkowit picked up a new phrase for these moments from a colleague yesterday. “Shut your briefcase, counselor.”
Recommend using anywhere you feel like it’s the wrong demographic for “Dude, STFU” or similar.
-
@jalefkowit That is very, very off-brand for the orange site.

@jalefkowit presumably he has lawyers, and I'm pretty sure they would be telling him to just shut up.

@kajord People don't always listen to their lawyers. But they should have a friend they listen to.

@jalefkowit A few times I've seen CEOs in twitter etc, and I've had the urge to find them and rugby tackle their means of communication from them.
I think almost every time it's been someone who's never been told no.
That opening DM alone was just so bad.
"Remember how he started off with “I’ve never been anything but nice to you, and we worked together for years.” Ladies… does this sound familiar?"
Yes, from experience we usually guess what's happening next, it's never puppies.

@jalefkowit (Upon further reflection: It sort of feels like the tech world itself is undergoing a midlife crisis at the moment.
...but perhaps that might just be a reflection of my own state. )
