Hm. Is there really no way to refresh a preview card attached to a status?

Of course, if you're an admin, you can just manually upload the new image yourself.
Never trust an admin!

Ah, but if another server already fetched the status, I suppose there is nothing you can do. Foiled again.

@stefan :thaenkin:
`tootctl media refresh --status 123456789`
Local status ID. -

@ButterflyOfFire Yep, tried that.
"Downloaded 0 media attachments (approx. 0 Bytes)"
I'm guessing that only works for media attachments, not card previews.
But thank you!

@stefan what’s a preview card? The thing you get when you add a link?
-
@catnip Yep, exactly that.
-
@stefan you’ve probably tried this. But what if you edit the post, remove the link, then edit it again to add it back in?
-
@catnip Yep, that didn't really help. What works is if you add something to the URL that makes it look different to the server, but not to anyone visiting it.
So something like adding "?123" will typically do the trick.
-
@stefan The only reliable way as an end user right now is to edit the post and replace with a slightly different url.
Add a fake extra query string parameter or even an alternative domain - m.YouTube.com vs YouTube.com for example, that points to the same spot.
But that only affects your post, not anyone elses posts that linked to your original url.
-
@box464 Yep, exactly how I went about it!

By the way, while looking into this, I came across your article on Mastodon embeds again, really great work!
