ok so we have a resurgence of "buy guns" now we need to counter that with "queer people are already at risk of suicide, if you own a gun and you have a lot of suicidal thoughts especially related to gender dysphoria that's super dangerous" also "you can't just buy a firearm and put it in the closet just in case you need to use it, you should take classes so that you know how to safely handle and secure your weapon"
-
not to mention the fact that guns aren't something you can pick up with some spare pocket change. it's not like $200 either, think more of $500-$600 and that's without ammo. is it really feasible for the same people that are having to rely on mutual aid to purchase a firearm? not saying this to be mean but i cannot stand the posts where it's like "just buy a gun lol that way we can be prepared". you have to do so much more than just that and guns aren't cheap
-
Ok to be fair the $500-$600 is more like "buying a gun from a dealer" type prices where you’re purchasing a new firearm. Used firearms obviously exist but I am skeptical that people just getting into purchasing a firearm are gonna know what to look out for in used firearms etc
-
I am very much aware that something like an ar-15 lower (I said the thing! I said the thing!) can be purchased with accessories and you can probably get a reasonably priced ar-15 build. Again - that requires you to know what you’re doing and to be an informed buyer. Something a first time gun owner is not going to have the experience for.
-
Also people buying a firearm in a panic are not gonna spend months on gun forums educating themselves on everything before making an informed decision. Otherwise they wouldn’t be listening to the buy a gun posts.
-
just buy a gun that way we can be prepared
what about a society that doesn't require one to own a fucking firearm to feel safe(-ish) /not at you
-
@[email protected] that’d make too much sense
-
@[email protected] we made guns to solve a problem and then we kept refining them to the point we needed to invent a problem for them to solve
-
@puppygirlhornypost2 I would also like to toss in a side of "fixation on guns as a solution to the threat of violence individualises the problem and can obscure other avenues of ensuring the safety of yourself and those around you by building mutual aid networks", along with "guns are only useful in a limited range of situations and there are many in which having a gun may cause a risky situation one to escalate to a life-and-death one"
