Does the Fediverse give you hope?
-
No, it's continued relative unpopularity in the face of universal hated-but-contined-use of the mainstream networks continues to be depressing.
Although the onboarding process for most of the major fediverse platforms is a bit scary for normies.
-
Lmao are you censoring me, telling me not to bring it up? Weak.
-
Yeah
I mean if this is the best the left has
Trump will never get tired of winning LMAO
-
The response is to tune-in, turn-on, and drop-out.
Start making things from scratch. Stop buying shit.
Opt-out.
-
I told you not to bring it up because you said you didn't want to argue about it.
-
It does give me hope, but I also worry it may be a double edged sword and opening pandora’s box. There are way too many ideologies here that aren’t democracy. Given how easy the public was brain washed by Trump, I fear this may be an avenue to expose those people to things that probably shouldn’t even be crossing their minds.

Idk. Dictating what I can or can't say based on your personal beliefs seems an awful lot like an attempt to censor me. I can only speak if I'm willing to argue every single thing? Don't tread on me, bro.

I think ydk. It really seems like you just want to argue about whatever you possibly can.

Lol coming from the one who started off with the "ackshually, by definition..." argument

Using the Fediverse feels like a small step in the right direction. Big changes are built on lots of small steps. I would say move in the direction of using the Fediverse more, the old alternatives less, and think of more small steps in the right direction you can do. I don't think just using the Fediverse is enough, but it is an important step to take. Keep going.
Corporations might accidentally help if they try to make their own instancss, like if you sign up with google to join the fediverse, realize most instances block googles because its corporate, then they make an account at non corporate version.
I think the best way for it to grow would be making it easy to self host, yunohost maes it pretty easy, but more managed hosting options competing or more of the big ones offering it would go a long way.

Oh, no. Not at all. All hope is lost, this is just a comfortable place to die.
Based we are all doomed

Voting doesn't work, they control the candidates. Money and power is what people like that want, and they get that in exchange for playing along.
That's why I said vote with your money
-
It gives me hope yeah, alot of my family and coworkers are extremely conservative and it's given me hope that they're not the default for cis people. I've since gotten away from alot of them and met irl friends who're more accepting but the presence of people online who didn't begrudgingly tolerate me before then has given me hope and the courage I would need to advocate for myself and not accept the bare minimum

Yeah ok, but... I really don't think the billionaries in charge care if you vote with your little salaried forced job income... I think if you look at the perspective of having millions or billions, people's actions don't matter, like at all.

I think it's unhealthy to suggest we have no control over the world. Invidiually, yes we have very little influence, but collectively, we have tremendous power to influence the world. To believe otherwise simply ensures others who will act and believe they can influence things will dominate over those who believe they are impotent.
Unhealthy because there is no feeling of hope? I'm OK with that actually. Life is still alright. But I don't think we actually can change anything important.
Yes, there are ebbs and flows. Sometimes bad people are in charge, sometimes good. And sure, sometimes some very charismatic person is also a good one, and manages to make things a bit better.
But the overall trend is not towards humanity being free of debt slavery, or wars, or greed and power.

Frankly, it’s stressing me out. The non-stop barrage of Trump, Musk and other bullshit is just a bit too much on here. I get how the platform in generally is very left leaning, but it really does feel like the sky is falling every five minutes, you know?
-
I'm just glad to be part of a community that seems to have some shread of human decency left. That's not all too common here in the States these days.
-
Honestly, it's just a matter of time before they make more Luigis snap. Hopefully they'll be an organized way to oust them all before the guillotines and the dining sets start coming out.

Reddit is more diverse. The same kind of cynicism exists there too but it's dilluted by all the other content so it's easier to ignore. Here that is less the case as majority of the content is news articles.
It depends how you use these platforms. On reddit, I go to a few somewhat niche subs (via a direct bookmark link) so I don't see any content outside of those specific niches.
On lemmy, I use this account for news/global politics, but I also have an alt where I only access content from subscribed communities and there is minimal politics.
