"Trump began the week by saying that his administration would be great for women’s reproductive rights.

"While political ads have featured Project 2025, no one is talking about the profound global impact of this manifesto. It would revive anti-gender US human rights policy frameworks like the Commission on Unalienable Human Rights and the Geneva Consensus Declaration, favouring anti-rights alliances and networks with other authoritarian regimes."

Essentially, this amounts to a gutting of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, the cornerstone of multilateral engagement for the past 76 years.
"Project 2025 would also reinstate and expand the anti-abortion foreign policy known as the Global Gag Rule (GGR) to all US foreign assistance."

"Reproductive justice is a global, human rights issue, and the US shares space with nearly 200 other nations. What happens here matters to the planet. And while the world doesn’t vote in US elections, there is, and will be, a rippling international impact."

@wdlindsy The real 'mission accomplished' will be during the inauguration and swearing in of President Harris.

"He thought he was so beloved by his right-wing acolytes that they would accept at least a temporary apostasy on abortion because surely they know it’s just what he has to say to get elected. So he started hedging around whether he would vote for a ballot measure in Florida to override the state’s extreme anti-abortion restrictions."

"As Trump tiptoed toward 'yes' in a television interview, you could see him processing, in real-time, his craven calculations. But he misjudged the backlash. So the next day, he walked it back. Or, more accurately ran back around in a circle, mumbling incoherently and hoping no one would notice.
But that’s not going to work, and you can bet there was a sweep of excitement at the Harris-Walz campaign where they were certainly paying attention."

@NeadReport May it be so.

@Huntn00 Well-noted and well-stated. As Mary Trump keeps telling the world, his father inflicted incredibly psychic damage on Trump, who keeps looking for a way to be important and recognized precisely because at some deep level he was broken in childhood.

@glennsills I don't think he would abandon them, though. I don't think he has any commitment at all to an anti-abortion position, but he does have a strong commitment to misogyny, and ripping away abortion rights is all about controlling women and putting them back into "their places."

@bouriquet Yes. We must not let ourselves take our eyes away from Project 2025, which is in essence the Republican party platform this election cycle.

@wdlindsy I love how the news is all about what Trump has said he will or won't do.
He's a liar. Nothing he says has any bearing on what will actually happen, but here we STILL are in 2024 pretending that man's words have meaning.

@wdlindsy It does help when you’re the master of blather and the narcissist of nonsense.
IOW, never believe anything that comes from that pus bag. -

@liquor_american And yet, we have no choice except to pay attention, because he poses a singular danger to the world, and it's very unwise to ignore a danger.

@wdlindsy The last thing I'm suggesting is ignoring the guy. I'm saying it's long past time for news organizations to stop pretending as though we can believe anything he says. It's insulting and dangerous.

@liquor_american Thanks for explaining your point. I'm sorry I misunderstood it. I very much agree with what you say here.

@wdlindsy Glad I could clarify. As with any habitual liar, we'd be wise to look almost exclusively at what he *does* because what he says is (to put it generously) unreliable.
The only real exception I can think of is when he does his stochastic terrorism schtick where he dances right up to the edge of calling for violence. I'd love news organizations to report more on that and less on the stuff that we can easily dismiss as deception. For some reason that's not where they're looking, though, even after all we've seen.

@liquor_american "As with any habitual liar, we'd be wise to look almost exclusively at what he *does* because what he says is (to put it generously) unreliable." Excellent. That's absolutely right. Puts me in mind of Maya Angelou's much-cited observation that when people show us who they are, we should believe them the first time.
