"Trump began the week by saying that his administration would be great for women’s reproductive rights. He said on Thursday that he would vote for a ballot initiative in Florida to end the six-week abortion ban currently in effect in Florida. After a backlash from evangelical groups, Trump announced on Friday that he would vote against the ballot amendment, thereby supporting the six-week ban."

""A vote for Trump is a vote to ban abortion in all 50 states. Anyone who suggests otherwise is just trying to elect him (so he can ban abortion). ...
Anti-abortion rights activists who pretend to be abuzz at Trump’s incoherence on the subject do not doubt what he’ll do in office."

"They got him to come out against Amendment 4, which has been polling near the 60% it needs to restore abortion rights in Florida. And they will get him to continue his extraordinary success at taking away reproductive freedoms.

"Again shifting his stance on reproductive rights, Donald Trump said today that if elected president he would be firmly against abortion on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays, and just as staunchly for it on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays.

@wdlindsy Ignore what a candidate says on the podium while campaigning. Those statements are non-binding and are made to get votes based on lies.
But beware of what his party policy and platform is.
And we know that it is Project 2025: a well-documented blueprint for a conservative takeover of our country, restricting much of the progress toward equality over the last 60 years.
We will not go back! -
@wdlindsy The anti-abortion people need to recognize that Trump might abandon them the day after the election. Reproductive rights people need to realize the same thing.

@wdlindsy That’s hilarious as DJT becomes Mr. Befuddled. “Come here kids! Look at that poor man flopping about on the ground…”
The diagnosis, he broke bad, proud of his insurrection and destruction until his half assed plans and horrendous choices ricocheted back smacking him in the eye. And now, he wreaths, between gnashing teeth, punitive overlord, benevolent dictator, and a poor little boy wondering why he can’t have everything, just wanting to be loved. -

"In the end, Donald Trump, a master of evasion, could only obfuscate for so long.
After hemming, hawing, avoiding, and rambling, the ex-president finally admitted Friday night that he opposes his home state’s abortion-rights ballot initiative.
Insiders had expected him to end up there. But Trump had shown a remarkable ability to just say nothing at all."

'Mission accomplished,' said an evangelical Trump confidant, who spoke on condition of anonymity."

"While political ads have featured Project 2025, no one is talking about the profound global impact of this manifesto. It would revive anti-gender US human rights policy frameworks like the Commission on Unalienable Human Rights and the Geneva Consensus Declaration, favouring anti-rights alliances and networks with other authoritarian regimes."

Essentially, this amounts to a gutting of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, the cornerstone of multilateral engagement for the past 76 years.
"Project 2025 would also reinstate and expand the anti-abortion foreign policy known as the Global Gag Rule (GGR) to all US foreign assistance."

"Reproductive justice is a global, human rights issue, and the US shares space with nearly 200 other nations. What happens here matters to the planet. And while the world doesn’t vote in US elections, there is, and will be, a rippling international impact."

@wdlindsy The real 'mission accomplished' will be during the inauguration and swearing in of President Harris.

"He thought he was so beloved by his right-wing acolytes that they would accept at least a temporary apostasy on abortion because surely they know it’s just what he has to say to get elected. So he started hedging around whether he would vote for a ballot measure in Florida to override the state’s extreme anti-abortion restrictions."

"As Trump tiptoed toward 'yes' in a television interview, you could see him processing, in real-time, his craven calculations. But he misjudged the backlash. So the next day, he walked it back. Or, more accurately ran back around in a circle, mumbling incoherently and hoping no one would notice.
But that’s not going to work, and you can bet there was a sweep of excitement at the Harris-Walz campaign where they were certainly paying attention."

@Huntn00 Well-noted and well-stated. As Mary Trump keeps telling the world, his father inflicted incredibly psychic damage on Trump, who keeps looking for a way to be important and recognized precisely because at some deep level he was broken in childhood.

@glennsills I don't think he would abandon them, though. I don't think he has any commitment at all to an anti-abortion position, but he does have a strong commitment to misogyny, and ripping away abortion rights is all about controlling women and putting them back into "their places."

@bouriquet Yes. We must not let ourselves take our eyes away from Project 2025, which is in essence the Republican party platform this election cycle.

@wdlindsy I love how the news is all about what Trump has said he will or won't do.
He's a liar. Nothing he says has any bearing on what will actually happen, but here we STILL are in 2024 pretending that man's words have meaning.
