I break down yet another poll out of the cryptocurrency industry.

Rather than my usual newsletter, this is one of my annotations (although newsletter subscribers will have received an issue sharing it as well). I break down the poll point-by-point, with additional context I got from speaking to Paradigm’s team about their methodology.

You may have seen my post earlier this month about their... creative data visualization.
Unfortunately that isn’t the only flaw in this poll, which tries to make very bold claims from very weak data.

For example, their claim that “1-2% of Democrats who may be leaning towards Trump due the Biden Administration’s hostility to crypto” is a) not 1-2%, b) is not actually sampling respondents “who may be leaning towards Trump”, and c) did not try to establish any causative link.
-
They also claim that “When Democrats come out as pro-crypto, they are following the lead of their own non-white base voters, who view crypto positively”, despite their own poll data showing that about 3 in 4 respondents do not view crypto positively.

THE POLL IS F'ING GREAT!
It's Friday, I'm going to guess it's a great poll and there is absolutely no reason anybody ever should worry about the crypto industry and certainly not subscribe to Molly White's newsletter. Absolutely don't do that.
Now where is my Friday afternoon beer.

@molly0xfff Great post!
You do have two annotations with id="harris", though
(the first annotation under "Takeaway 1", and the second-to-last annotation of the entire article. Clicking the second 'harris' annotation scrolls to the first one) -
@penguinencounter @molly0xfff agreed. It looks like there's a bit of an annotation mix-up! Having two annotations with the same ID can definitely cause confusion.

@molly0xfff minor note, I think the --review-addition-color and --review-highlight-2 CSS vars need an override in the @media (prefers-color-scheme: dark) block (or tweak the foreground color in that case or whatever)
also I love love love the use of <mark> elements there one of my favorite underused HTML elements
