blog! “Replace Twitter Embeds with Semantic HTML”
I logged into Twitter using a fresh account last week. No followers, no preferences set. The default experience was an unending slurry of racism and porn. I don't care to use Twitter any more. Whatever good that was there is now drowned in a cess-pit of violent filth. I still have a lot of Tweets […]

@MugsysRapSheet you don't need to justify yourself to me.
-
@Edent Yes the reason why I finally made the jump, missing my favourites, but the move is surprisingly positive. Away from the shouting and the 'clever' in the eyes of the bots or poster two word putdown.
-
@Edent what do you think of people (or really, the method) who put 'tweets' on their personal website which are then auto-posted to twitter?
-
@alifeee I don't think about them at all.
(By which I mean, people are free to post wherever they like and syndicate to wherever takes their fancy.)
-
@Edent oh yes, couldn't agree more. Outside of tech circles though that syndication doesn't seem much known about, but it seems quite useful

I've successfully used this to replace ~400 Tweets which were previously embedded in my blog.
Only another few hundred to go!

@Edent thanks for making this. I don’t have twitter embeds but if I did I’d use it. I stopped using it before you-know-who bought it.

@Edent Hi - in an impressive feat of yak-shaving I've attempted to turn your scripts into a python package. See here: https://github.com/drkane/Tweet2Embed/tree/python-package
The main change is that you could now import some of the key functions into other code (eg `from tweet2embed.tweet2html import tweet_to_html`).
There are some other changes too - not sure if they are so big to be bordering on rude! Perhaps I can submit a PR and discuss there?

@kanedr
Amazing! Do it!
Please sync with some of my recent changes first.
Happy to discuss big changes -
@Edent great - I'll open a PR. I've included the most recent changes, but due to the changes I've had to do them as new commits.
