Go to Tags - Search
Press any letter, let's say "n". The system filters the tags and displays only those that have the letter "n" in it. So far so good.
Press Backspace and the system does not display the entire list of tags again.

Upgraded today to v. 1.19.0 and it works like a charm, renamed all numeric tags with "%" and good to gooooooo 馃憤

Can you provide more reproduction steps? When we try to reproduce this, the dropdown does go away.
It's new in v1.12.x
if you don't like it. You can remove it in CSS
go to /admin/appearance/customise
add this
save and check if it's good.
There you go, all fixed 馃槃
