I have a few web apps where signup is handled using custom scripts and I would like to automatically give users an account in nodebb.

Whats the best way of adding users to nodebb programmatically?

For a large part this is an architectural issue.
It would extremely useful if it were possible to test a plugin on the production database in a development or staging environment.

That's not possible when NodeBB gets the list of activated modules from the database.

We have a similar problem like this with Drupal7. It's close to impossible to test something on the production data without making a copy (which is extremely unpractical with a large DB) because of the tight coupling between configuration and content.

Haven't used it yet but Drupal 8 has improved on that issue quite a bit:

@ningji that's been there for a long time now. You just need to have one of the search plugins installed and activated. nodebb-plugin-dbsearch gets installed by default. Activate the plugin and restart NodeBB to see the search icon.

@yariplus FYI... plugins themselves don't add that search menu. NodeBB checks for any active plugins listening for the hook filter:search.query to decide whether to show or hide the search icon.

For some reason spam registrations have dropped drastically. I noticed it 3 days before I upgraded to 0.4.1. Now all those cialis, viagra, and levitra usernames no longer populate my list of users.
