Everybody thinks having a private jet is this huge flex but...
You know what would be a FLEX?
Private trains.
First off; even getting your own train on the schedule? Huge flex. Shows off immense wealth and connections.
Second; the length. I mean... you can directly fight with other rich people about who's is longer.
Finally, every car can be designed and decorated independently, inside and out. What better way to show off your design sense -- by which I mean someone that you paid's design sense -- than by having 75 rooms in your main mode of transport?
It's like a mansion but for going between your mansions.

@rgegriff Didn't they actually, kinda do this? In a lot of older films there was often a conceit of the rich guy's "private car".

@socketwench Oh yeah! and I think some of your oldtimey robber barrons would have DEFINITELY run trains where they and their immediate staff were the only passengers.

@rgegriff This was part of an "Archer" episode, interestingly enough. https://archer.fandom.com/wiki/The_Limited

@socketwench I've been informed elsewhere in the thread that Dan Aykroyd owns a private train car

@socketwench @rgegriff In the continental US you can pay Amtrak to attach your private car to an existing consist. As long as the car meets their safety standards they're quite happy to take your money. I suspect you could do the same with VIA in Canada. Not sure who you'd need to arrange with anywhere else but I would be surprised if there wasn't *someone*.
Now, having your own engine & consist and getting that on the main, that would be Quite The Thing as you'd have to have right of way agreements with every first class freight company that owns track you want to use. Talk about nightmares. You'd need a professional staff just to make the arrangements.
It is possible. Just not probable.

That's the flex, haha.
