Did you know that when you use the Share button on YouTube to share a video, that it has tracking embedded in the link?

@BeAware I've found copying the YouTube URL straight from the address bar in my browser (instead of the share button where &si= is added) and replacing "youtube.com" with "yewtu.be" (or some other Invidious instance) works very well!

@MOULE it sure does! Though, a lot of people are still ignorant about invidious so I always tell people to use invidi.link like I did at the bottom there.βοΈ
Easy enough to use without being too technologically advanced.

@BeAware Google has made sure that I don't share links to their content.

@jenzi invidi.link is your best friend in that case.

@BeAware I've grown to be a never-Google guy. I was all in with Home Minis everywhere, Nest thermostat, Google phones... Then they started to do things like break the Nest & Google Home integration (to make me buy a new one) so I left.

@jenzi I feel that. I'm stuck within their ecosystem with my Gmail.βοΈ
Never bought a home surveillance system by Google though, that seems like something I'd never do in a million years. To each their own though, I guess at least you don't do it anymore, but not for the reasons I wouldn't have done it in the first place.they spy on me enough already without having a speaker in my bedroom.

@QueenValhalla @jenzi do those have ways to input a YouTube link and get an easily sharable link? If that's the case I'd be glad to recommend them.

@BeAware It's because they were basically free and I built a smart home after a big accident in 2019 (I had time on my hands and needed an outlet to heal). Giving voice commands becomes so second nature that I'd try to turn on lights in hotels with my voice.

@jenzi I get it partially. Though, I can't help but think of asking google anything about you and it being able to give a scarily detailed and accurate response.
"Hey Google, whats my kinks?"
"You tell me, Daddy"

@BeAware The use case, these days is more getting status of devices or changing device states through voice - turn the lights on, turn off TV (including all the accessories, etc).

@jenzi I understand *your* use case...the thing is, that's not *their* use case...they're not gathering data on your electricity bill or anything.

you can search with a youtube link
Freetube is not great on Android. I recently gave up trying to load any video. I use it on PC.
I like NewPipe on Android. I wasn't able to import subscriptions or playlists into NewPipe from FreeTube exported files.I'm willing to futz with apps that's aren't spying on me.
I have been trying FOSS programs for awhile.
