I can't remember all the attacks I've received from Prusa themselves and its community when I've raised my voice about their misleading use of open source.

I can't remember all the attacks I've received from Prusa themselves and its community when I've raised my voice about their misleading use of open source. Today is another small victory as Hackaday now adds its voice to many others.

@bear_lab it sucks but if you don't want to build one yourself you are still best at Prusa.

@MisterMaker @bear_lab Here is the thing that gets me: Sovol is doing _far_ better (not perfect) at the open source printer game than Prusa.
Admittedly, they address different segments of the market and likely have starkly different business models.
However, it does illustrate that a company can produce an open source, decent printer at an affordable price. Prusa could do it, they just don't _want_ to. It's a choice.

@linux_mclinuxface @bear_lab I did not kmow about Sovol gotta check that out! Tnx.

@MisterMaker @bear_lab I have an SV06 and SV08, while both are far from perfect printers, they are great value and more complete from an open source perspective.
-
@linux_mclinuxface @MisterMaker Difficult to qualify it better but I do recognize the effort. They don't share the native CAD (only STL/STEP) and the files don't have a license. It's hard to do anything with that. However, yeah it would make it easier to clone and that's not happening.
-
@bear_lab @MisterMaker the missing license file on some repos is troublesome, although the SV08 does have a proper license.
They have full mechanical drawings which I find immensely helpful and nearly as useful as CAD files (likely for a CAD package i don’t have access to).

@linux_mclinuxface @MisterMaker Yep sorry, I saw after writing that the SV08 has a license. Yes mechanical drawings are useful/mandatory because they contain info you don't always have on CAD like tolerances, surface finish or materials. A lot of things like that are missing in MK2 and MK3 and maybe even on MK1...

@linux_mclinuxface @bear_lab I also don't make drawings off sheetmetal parts since you don't need those at a lot if modern suppliers. So that could be a thing.
