Free Our Feeds
Let's take social media away from billionaire capture.

Mastodon (@[email protected])
Today Mastodon is taking another step towards its founding ideals: independence and non-profit ownership. We're transferring ownership of key assets to a new, European not-for-profit entity, ensuring our mission remains true to a decentralised social web, not corporate control. #MastodonNonProfit https://blog.joinmastodon.org/2025/01/the-people-should-own-the-town-square/

Why did #FreeOurFeeds pick #AtProtocol rather than #ActivityPub?I won't be surprised if the answer is long, not short. I'd love to read it either way. FOF should put the Q in its FAQ and write out the full answer for those of us who share its goals but think ActivityPub fulfills them at least as well as AtProtocol.

@petersuber @elipariser Why #FreeOurFeeds uses the Diaspora logo? (which uses another protocol)

@daniel @petersuber @elipariser The FAQ has been updated. We are definitely also interested in Mastodon and ActivityPub. The Free Our Feeds project plans to work on interoperability and collaboration across protocols where it makes sense.
As far as we know, the asterisks is a coincidence, it has nothing to do with Diaspora.

It is indeed. We stand at the crossroads of two very different ways forward for media and social media in particular, one corporate and controlled by tech VC money and the other public and free.
These are incompatible, and your initiative will funnel money for truly open public systems to a corporate platform and blur the line between public and private.
Please reconsider what you are doing here.
