When you meet people that can type out `openssl` commands from sheer memory, be kind to them, because they've been through a few things.

@vwbusguy Beware the `ffmpeg` incantation knowers, for they are connected to an eldritch power beyond comprehension.
-
@slightlyoff I learned ffmpeg when I ended up doing a bunch of video and livestream editing during COVID lock downs and I basically found out you can save a lot of time in not re-encoding if your inputs and outputs are the same format, but yeah, ffmpeg will harm your sanity real good.

@nils_ballmann @bluca @bagder You don't have to ^c out of it if you </dev/null
I generally pipe that to `openssl x509` from there.

Is that a call to #normies to be kind to #techies, or a call to "members" to be kind to other "members"?
On #Mastodon, #normies have gone through some things too, which is why the distinction is facile. I remember being scorned by some self-identified techies who knew little about me

@vwbusguy I’ve heard rumours there’s a space invaders clone using just one invocation of #ImageMagick.

And also be kind to people who can write hello world on assembly from sheer memory. -
@rameshgupta
I think neither. I read it as: openssl’s CLI interface is so convoluted and makes so little sense that knowing any command from memory means you used the tool a lot. And the tool and SSL/TLS are so shitty that the only way you chose to use the openssl CLI is because you had serious problems to solve. So “having serious problems to solve” and “a lot” lead to “having been through things.”

So this IS a call for #normies to be kind to #techies because techies have "been through a few things"
#Techies understand techie struggle, but they don't understand that #normies have to solve serious problems too
My point is that everybody has to solve serious problems, and the techie-normie distinction is facile.
There's no need to seek special treatment

@rameshgupta @oscherler Oh hey, I finally get to use this meme. Thanks!
