I'm hiding here from Tumblr. I made a joke* there, and now in response people are trying to send me links to slavoj zizek clone fucking.I don't know what that is and I don't want to find out, so I'm going to just do mastodon for the rest of today.

When I mentioned mastodon on Tumblr, someone asked what it was. Someone else (Tumblr user flexplate) answered "It's like Twitter but for people who know how to troubleshoot Linux printer drivers."
Which is mean but not entirely untrue

@foone I promise you I have never made Linux print or play audio. Honestly I've never even tried.
-
@foone But there's a perfectly cromulent word for people who can troubleshoot Linux printer drivers. They're called furries.

@foone I'm not going to admit this, but the room full of Linux people over here, who are mostly on Mastodon, just went "fudge it" and replaced the HP printer with a Brother to resolve 90% of the driver problems.
So not wrong, but sometimes they solve it the easy way.

@johnlogic Putting Audio PostScript into your audio printer is cheating!

@riley @johnlogic @tess @foone That is how you get your printer to jam

I have a bastard of a networked printer that doesn't worked networked (the DHCP keeps dropping) and while linux supports it, it does so with a binary driver. the binary driver only includes x86 and x64 executables, so you can't run it off a raspi without some serious hackery.
that's why I'm on mastodon. someday I'll get that stupid printer working
