I’ve been experimenting with the Ice Cubes fedi app for iOS, and it’s mostly OK except for some ill-advised AI features (which thankfully can be turned off) and one absolutely showstopping bug that throws away a work-in-progress post if you happen to switch over to a different app and then switch back, which is just murder on someone like me who’s constantly going back to grab a URL for an article or copy text to use as alt text

In this way it tracks with my general experience of iOS Mastodon apps, in that they all seem to combine a bunch of nice features with one decision so bad it feels like getting kicked in the nads every time you encounter it

@jalefkowit Might that be a memory management issue on the device and not a design decision for the app?

@jalefkowit I find myself using the native web experience on mobile more often these days, but mostly because there are a lot of features that have been added in 4.3 that aren't in any of the clients (properly) liked group notifications and such.

@bencurthoys It seems unlikely, as other apps I've used have no problem holding on to a work-in-progress post over the course of a 30 second tab-out. But I don't know enough about the internals to say for certain.
