I don't understand why you need a gym. Use a treadmill? Just run somewhere. Lifting weights? Just find something heavy and lift it.
My oldest friend stayed fit this way. Just actually going places and using random ass things to lift (backpacks full of books, paint cans tied to a mop like barbells, tires; anything heavy enough that it was a workout), along with other exercises that didn't require machines or spending money.

Yeah whatever floats your goat really. My brother used to load his backpack full of textbooks and do pushups/home workouts and it worked for him. To each their own as long as long as whatever you do is working and you use proper technique.

Also theres nothing worse than a crowded lane-swimming pool with casuals when you're trying to get a proper workout in. I never get mad about it, I understand why everyone is there and glad they're making an effort but theres rules that need to be followed.

Because it's all an impulse decision
"New Year's Resolutions" are the exact opposite of setting good goals
Good goals:
- need to be definable
- "I will start restricting calories and target a 1lb per week loss"
- not "get in shape"
- need to be actionable
- "I will start making plans right now, and implementing them tonight"
- not "I will wait till a specific time of the year"
- need to be sustainable
- "I will adjust my strategy to work around my daily habits and otherwise be flexible"
- not "NO MORE SWEETS"
- need to be definable

At my gym I made a body analysis which identified some muscle dysbalances. This was really helpful to create a workout plan.
There are also a lot of muscles I cannot train specifically when at home, because I do not have the right equipment at home. The trainers in the gym are also really helpful in teaching me how to get my body in a good shape.On top of that I don't find it easy to establish the habit of doing workout at home. I prefer a change of location and also a dedicated time. My gym, which is located on my way back home from work really helps with keeping my schedule. I am doing this for 1.5 years now, two times a week and it works really great for me.
You see, everybody ia different and for some people like me a gym is a really nice thing. If a home workout is the right thing for you and you can also save money in the meantime, that's a great thing.

I tried it in college then just started getting railed in my dorm instead
although a couple of women joined us and I got matched with one? it was her first time too. she had a heat stroke attack or something and passed our during practice and we had to walk in the rain to find the med center

I got into outdoor sports to stay away from gyms. The only exception is I use indoor climbing gyms for training. You should try lake, river, or ocean swimming. I find swimming shore to shore really fun. It's like travelling through the wilderness but with swimming

I'm not a fan of outdoor swimming and it would take 2hr+ for me to get somewhere I can swim outdoors, the pool is 2 subway stations away from my house, not an option unfortunately.

Yeah. I switched to free weights last week in prep for not being able to access any of the machines at the fitness centre.
At least the running lanes at the track usually stay empty. I needed to work on my cardio more, anyway.
