Ah, so if I want to follow someone from Bluesky, they have to first follow the Bridgy Fed account to opt in, I see.
-
@stefan including the opt-in signal as part of a starter pack doesn't seem like a good idea to me - people could feel like they were tricked into opting in.

@stefan @gdinwiddie … re: BlueSky
"Though the matter was originally fraught with debate over the bridge’s planned opt-out nature, Barrett listened to the community feedback and made the bridge opt-in on both sides for the time being.
That could shift in the future, however, to becoming opt-out for Bluesky users only. 'The norms and expectations there are somewhat different than in the fediverse,' Barrett said.”
So, maybe I don't want to do this.

@stefan @thisismissem Could bridgy construct a virtual starter pack? Or a virtual list?
-
@ricmac Ah, I only wanted to make a proof of concept, but what the heck, I can add a few more, why not.
-
@[email protected] Yeah, I guess we'll find out if people start sharing this!
-
@aslakr @thisismissem Ah, no idea, sorry! @snarfed.org might be able to answer that.

@deborahh @gdinwiddie Yeah, I think they should keep it opt-in for everyone, no matter the "norms".
-
@ranjit Good point.
-
I guess one question I have, is there a way for people to opt-out their bridged accounts from a starter pack?
-
@stefan Oh ok, sorry Feel free to ignore, I am just testing all this stuff too.
-
@ricmac No worries! Fun to try things out!

@stefan ooh, good question!
I guess my mastodon account, which is (I assume) not "bridged" is safe?
-
@stefan Can you add mine? @WeirdWriter.caneandable.social.ap.brid.gy

@deborahh Yes, on the fediverse side of things, you have to opt in by following the Bridgy Fed account.
Following it creates sort of a "shadow account" that Bluesky users can follow, but you can't really "log into it", I presume. And then you can just unfollow and block the bridge account to have your bridged account deleted.
-
@WeirdWriter Strange. I do see your bridged account, but it doesn't come up in the search when trying to add it to the starter pack itself.
Having the same issue with you, @atthenius.
-
I am curious, can you do a general search for my last name and see if *any* bridged accounts come up? @stefan @atthenius
-
@WeirdWriter @atthenius Ah, yes, two:
- @robertkingett.com.web.brid.gy
- @weirdwriter.tweesecake.social.ap.brid.gy -
@stefan @thisismissem @snarfed.org I guess everything is possible, but what should this virtual starter pack be based on? Accounts that your are following on activitypub which also follows the bridgy account?
-
@aslakr @thisismissem @snarfed.org Hmm, not sure. And I'm not too sure if this would have enough value over better support for Bluesky's built-in starter packs.
Seems like an option to opt your bridged account out of them would be a good place to start, unless that can already be done somehow.
-
@stefan @thisismissem @snarfed.org For the build in Bluesky starter packs you need a Bluesky account. A virtual one could be contructed of data from the activitypub/mastodon side.
