complete with in-app purchases and an occasional nag to subscribe to the premium experience

@jepyang holy crap, and here I was thinking ParentSquare was terrible
two pieces of unsolicited advice, from someone who’s been dealing with this shit for 3 years now:
1) resist, as much as possible; use the website instead of the app, claim the app doesn’t work or your phone doesn’t support it, and so on; if they aren’t buying you the device they can’t force you to run software
-
@jepyang 2) foment unrest about this among other parents, quietly. It can start with the occasional gripe about how it sends you random push notifications or you’re not getting these things or whatnot,
also, no one likes big tech or silicon valley right now, and, oof you’ve got a bad case of that
-
@jepyang ultimately the people who made the decision to use this are accountable to the public, and if you can enough grumbling and “fuck you I won’t do what you told me” going on they’re going to have to answer for it
it may not help that most superintendents are wannabe cops who hate children, but they do have voters to answer to
