@jerry - Twitter being down due to a server outage is one thing. Congress and SCOTUS banning a social media app is an entirely different thing. Things have just changed irreparably.

Banning all billionaire-controlled, algorithm-defined social media would probably be a net positive for society.

@mathaetaes @northernlights @tinker @jerry The thing is, it's not just a precedent for billionare-controlled, algorithm-defined social media, it's a precedent for any part of the internet they don't like. They could just as easily come after Mastodon instances, blogs or really any other websites that they feel are a "threat" in some way.

Mmm, the things about Mastodon instances is that they're all around the world and it's relatively easy to start a new one.
Swatting at blackflies is a LOT more difficult than aiming at a mountain.
