@wolf You know how some people have really thick accents, and they’re hard to understand? I’ve been told Scottish is especially tough for Americans like me. And there are some creole accents in the American south that are hard for me to understand.
It’s like that. Everyone is using the same “language” but the rules are so loose that they have really heavy accents that are nearly unintelligible.
So developers have to test their work on each individual server they want to connect to. It’s a lot

@benpate Yeah, I see that. It’s become clear to me that Mastodon is in the sandbox category of software like Linux for whom the primary interest belongs to software developers or hobbyists.
Thus, it’s probably not really ever going to become a surrogate for Twitter, similar to other open-source software imitations of hugely popular softwarez
