Yeah, I copy-paste the welcome with hashtag advice to every new account I see. Somehow I saw the account age and something about being a software person when I glanced at the bio, but not the parts about actually knowing the answer to this, lol. -

@[email protected] ActivityPub is like a sort of casual bar where you're screaming about what you're doing all the time and a bunch of randos in the bar that you don't know are like "what the fuck is wrong with you, why would you do that?" and then you smash pints over each other's heads and desperately wish you could somehow block the other person out of your vision. All while the bartender pretends not to notice.
-
@[email protected] but then there's also a corner where people are doing like, a James Joyce book club. The bartender immediately kicks them out.

In my defense, I wouldn't call it "Mansplaining" when it's a woman in software responding to another woman in software's seemingly genuine question about a software she works with.I think we overuse that term: "Mansplaining", to me, is typically when a man assumes a woman doesn't know things, because she's a woman, and explains, poorly, the thing.
Either way, I didn't see who it was and treated her as a new user: I think it's important that the first "I am new and what is this?" gets a welcoming and informative response.

@cwebber I really donβt understand why everyone is always going on about this activity pub.
Myself, I much prefer my passivity sofa.

@cwebber It's actually Felineverse and CativityPub; created to spread cat images across the world on caturdays. However, when the final draft was saved a cat walked across the keyboard which introduced some spelling errors so here we are.

@cwebber Imagine a crazy business model where someone puts a lot of effort to provide a platform "for free" and then people use it and think themselves as absolutely clever because they just take and never pay a cent. But, they are not aware that actually the business guys take all their private information and make tons of money from targeted advertising. Fediverse is exactly that but without the money and the advertising and much more crazy business guys who don't actually have a business!

@cwebber ActivityPub? Don't you mean ActivityPug?

@PastaThief @cwebber
normal people don't read specs, and respond to questions immediatelly. I want to live in the world where emotional impulse to help is never mocked. I also don't want to force everyone to read all context, like nerd's brain tells, feels kinda selfish. -

@cwebber an activitypub is when 10 people make the same joke because their servers don't federate with each other

Exactly, #Fediverse is an online role-playing game where people incorrect each other without reading specs or knowing who they're responding to. The actual quantity of knowledge in the world doesn't increase, but is diluted to homeopathic levels.Hope this helps! Send toot.

@[email protected] I asked my cat to purr if she created the fediverse and she purred, so I think my cat created the fediverse. I haven't gotten her to explain what the fediverse actually is though.

@[email protected] @[email protected] no, a misskey is one that hasn't married yet.
-
-
@[email protected] @[email protected] it's also a common misconception that it's the "Shark" one. It's actually "SharKey", and it's a fediverse software devoted entirely to the critically acclaimed video game, "Baldur's Gate 3".

@cwebber ActivityPub is a unit of measurement for the energy generated by happy hour at the median drinking establishment.
