Sarah Scire reports that publications endorsing Harris, including the Philadelphia Inquirer and The Guardian, are capitalizing on the controversy Jeff Bezos has caused by yanking a Washington Post endorsement of Harris.

@wdlindsy
To be consistent with Bezos' "perception of bias" logic, the WP editorial board will have to publish nothing but both-sides blather or nothing at all. -

The "Biden Garbage" story is 100% manufactured GOP spin and it is negligent for the MSM to focus on it.
In a world of constant Trump insults, a single Biden statement --- corrected immediately and again condemned the next day -- is no issue at all.
MSM stories are willfully courting bad faith right wingers. No surprise given the recent right wing editorial hires.

@TCatInReality Yes, I very much agree. Well-stated.

@tanquist So it would seem. And that wouldn't really be a departure from what they've been doing for some time now.

@wdlindsy I think in the same way that business schools have failed. There is no consideration for anything outside of the task at hand. And there is no room for principles.

@sheilasmall @xerophile And yet, Biden didn't call Trump and his followers garbage. But I take your good point, delivered with zingy humor.

@xerophile Kudos to you. I have long kept my distance from New York Times, since it has always been clear to me that they are addressing an audience to which I don't really belong, as someone not living in the rarefied circles of coastal elites. I also have found their treatment of LGBTQ issues over many years -- and now, notably trans ones -- often contemptible. The arrogance is a deal-breaker for me as I follow their commentary over the years. I'm with you on WaPo, too.

@jonathanpeterson I agree. Some months ago, I realized that, since I read The Guardian daily as my English-language newspaper of choice (I read online, of course), I needed to help fund them. So I did that and am happy I did so -- and when I can scrape together a few more pennies as an aged retiree, I think I'll add more to that fund!

@jami Thanks for that information. I need to look for more ways not to rely on Amazon now. I've never subscribed to Amazon Prime except when I ordered something on Amazon aned they told me mailing costs would be cancelled if I subscribed to Prime on a trial basis. I subscribed to get the free mailing, and then immediately unsubscribed.

@marksquires I share your jubilation that Philadelphia Inquirer is gaining from WaPo's unacceptable decision. If I remember aright, Will Bunch produces columns there. He's one of the very best.

But, here’s the thing: Trump supporters ARE garbage. Fascist, low information, garbage. -

@Joe_Hill To me, getting into shouting matches – which are all about dominance – isn't really helpful here. I'm honestly glad to leave the mudslinging to that group of folks and not to answer them in kind. That doesn't mean that I think we shouldn't push back hard, but that I think we need to consider the tools we use as we do so so that we don't become a mirror image of them. And I also suspect I'm not blameless when it comes to name-calling.

@Flowermob I agree. And it should also be noted that universities and colleges in general have been, for some years now, weaking their liberal arts curriculum and turning themselves into vocational schools of a sort.

@wdlindsy guess that makes Trump the garbage man of the world. I really wish he’d stop banging those cans so loudly.
Isn’t trashing your country at every turn the exact opposite of patriotism? Reagan, love him or hate him, would have been appalled by Trump, as should all republicans. I despise Reagan-omics, but he believed in America, for better or worse. I can’t say what Trump believes in. I only know what he hates. He clearly loves the sound of his own voice.
