@wyatt8740 @amyipdev I read that as Jewish for a sec, didn't understand thought for a moment you're Jewish and decided Ubuntu isn't Kosher for whatever reason
-
@amyipdev @wyatt8740 that's ok it's just the meme
Here people just write Kosher in Hebrew and sometimes English, and Halal in Arabic
It's called cheating the system
-
@[email protected] @[email protected] I don't personally like flatpaks (I'm really big on the traditional software installation model, although I am using nixos now so ) but holy shit will I take flatpak over snapd
-
@[email protected] @[email protected] here it doesn't get written since we don't have much kosher or halal food at all
-
@amyipdev @wyatt8740 I dislike flatpaks as well but like.
Wdym you simply don't support them? Every system should have flatpak support till we have a better alternative
-
-
@[email protected] @[email protected] i'm fairly sure you can install flatpak on ubuntu no?

@[email protected] @[email protected] yeah it is supported, literally
sudo apt install flatpak
, was in a PPA before: https://flatpak.org/setup/Ubuntu -

@amyipdev @wyatt8740 hahahaha here everything's Kosher and Halal, the difference is whether it serves both Khalavi and Basari, and whether it is open on Saturdays/serves alcohol, respectively, of course
There's actually a government monopoly on this, the Kashrut Authority attempted to force all Khalavi (milk-derived) stuff to be triangular a while back.
-
@amyipdev @wyatt8740 doesn't count imo, it should be there by default, I don't trust installing flatpak myself, it has magic invoke-admin-cmds-without-admin I don't trust apt (nor rpm for that matter) to install properly

@amyipdev @wyatt8740 honestly, I gave two main requirements of a flatpak alternative:
* I don't wanna know it's a flatpak. It should work with DNF/APT/whatever local package manager you have in addition to its own CLI.
* Have GTK dark mode work out of the fucking goddamn box thank you very much -
@[email protected] @[email protected] oh cool, where're you from? (i'm stuck in orange county, california for now desfortundamente)
-
@wyatt8740 @amyipdev no it's fine when it's there by default, it's system mutability and Linux permissions magic I don't trust, not flatpak itself.
Giving stuff admin on my already installed system freaks me out, I hate it, lemme put my password in every time for the love of god.

@wyatt8740 @amyipdev I know still freaks me out, should be atomic, as in, reproducible on every machine, then if it's a security hazard it's not my fault and someone will catch it on another machine.
Manually installing something like this, even if it's automagically done by DNF, should not be the norm for a desktop OS imo
(I use Fedora)
-
@[email protected] @[email protected] "manually installing" installing something through apt/dnf/another package manager is not manual
