I haven’t moved to Monterey but it feels like I’ve really settled in because I now have a Monterey bike mechanic who gives me bikecamping advice

I also feel like I found the right bike mechanic spot coz I rolled in with my classic steel bike and everyone gawked (does not happen at roadie bike places). Just a culture fit thing lol

That's because you're smart.
Keep that baby maintained and lubed up and she'll keep blessing you with good rides for the rest of your life.
I have a 1999 GT Attack that I got overhauled last year. It's a rougher ride than yours, being aluminum, but I love that thing. It's so fast, especially now.
The guys at the shop were like, "Yeah, you made the right choice by just overhauling it." A $700 overhaul gave me a bike that performs like a $3,000 new bike.

@GuyDudeman parts on modern bikes also often feel.. poorly considered.
I have two steel bikes and I love them to bits
