@chris It's even more infuriating since the homeowner replaced a heating oil furnace - which is, objectively, a much larger risk by any measure. Heating oil leaks cost hundreds of thousands of dollars to clean up.

@chris We didn’t have any issue with insurance when we built new with panels plus there are panels all over our neighbourhood. This feels like some new policy and not sure what would drive it. Even heat pumps are old tech considering they’re basically AC units you can reverse.

@Chigaze the heat pumps thing really surprised me. Big force-air heat pumps have been around for 30-40 years... A/C for even longer. It's very odd.

Ludicrous.
Maybe Ca insurers should talk to Au insurers, where it's not an issue, and over 25% of homes have solar? Airconditioning that doesn't use heat pump tech (reverse cycle a/c) has been considered a poor option for years.
