just watched Linus (techtips) review these new "smart glasses" called the "Brilliant Labs Frame" and while it looks like the AI part of it totally sucks they apparently are developed with micropython and are not locked down (seen reference that they are open source but I can't tell to what extent) and are selling new for 350$

@liaizon yeah open hardware is kinda their thing and then they pivoted to AI.
The monocle was extremely compelling for this reason
https://docs.brilliant.xyz/monocle/hardware/ultimately its a full computer and fairly difficult to do anything with, not a display you can use for your regular small computer

@aynish interesting to see that Beeper (which is now a subsidy of Automattic) invested in them https://x.com/ericmigi/status/1755647473731899693
If the claim of a full day of battery and if you could really flash them completely with a FLOSS "OS" makes me tempted by them. The amount of companies trying to do smart glasses rn, soon enough there might be piles of these sitting in free boxes or thrift stores.

@aynish wow yeah it looks like their docs have a lot of info, and confirms you can totally flash different firmware https://docs.brilliant.xyz/frame/hardware/#customizing-the-firmware
