#WritersCoffeeClub Sep. 17: Do you agree with Somerset Maugham, who said "there are three rules for writing a novel. Unfortunately, no one knows what they are."
I think there are guidelines, but that they differ for each author, and often for each novel the author creates. They are things that must be discovered in the act of creation.

@troublewithwords As a reader, I view it also as ‘permission’ to not limit yourself by things you’ve seen before, and to find what works for your context.
I also find a parallel in how folks use software. Photoshop and Word are huge bloated apps… but everyone uses them differently and need different features. ‘People only use 5% of the features, but they’re all different’.
