the amount of Discourse about Bluesky and fedi in my feed keeps trending up
the amount of things that people make for fedi that I can cover in my newsletter keeps trending down

@laurenshof (re: the second paragraph)

yeah, it sucks
but it also lessens the meaning of all the Thoughtpieces and Discourse about Bluesky and decentralisation in a whole lot of ways for me. Like sure, theoretical concerns are nice and all, but in the end Im much more interested in peoples actual behaviour
-
@laurenshof I understand Laurens 🥲
Edit/follow-up Q: does this mean the days of the Fediverse Report are numbered? Will you focus on the ATmosphere or keep doing both?
-
no i definitely will continue with that! Might consider switching to a biweekly schedule at some point if that makes more sense, but not now. The sour upside of there being less news is also that its less work for me to get the newsletter out haha

@_elena in general I actually think that the success of bluesky is a massive opportunity for fedi to reinvent itself and built into different directions that fill a clear need
Especially after jan20th people will really really want private accounts on social networks, and bsky def will take more than a few months to add private state to atproto
so i think its highly likely that some protocol will see adoption for giving private accounts
-
@_elena that said, this does require a willingness to build new things and shape fedi into a different direction. And thats the part Im most worried about: the opportunities are clearly available, but I'm not sure if there will be enough interest from current fedi culture to actually go there
