These things can both be true:

• The push for RTO is often motivated by reasons other than the stated reasons

• Innovation / cross-training / scuttlebutt from physical co-location is a real thing that has dropped off dramatically, especially for specific neurotypes -- and it takes strong, creative, and persistent leadership and tools to achieve similar benefits virtually

@tychotithonus There's definitely value in getting together with people and whiteboarding, and also group conversations are easier in person... but I think you can get >90% of that benefit a couple days a week.

@ryanc Oh, definitely! An interesting experimental middle ground would be a modified Xerox PARC / Bell Labs model:

• everyone has a private office
• multiple types of communal space
• everyone lives a short distance from work
• everyone can flex home/office as needed
• people know when not to schedule in-person meetings
