Still not fully getting the Fediverse / world / mastodon integration?
-
Can someone please explain why replying to fediverse threads still doesnt work?
For example I replied to a world post.
I made a reply and it shows on here but not on Mastodon thread, is it supposed to?
I was expecting it to show on @mastodon.online under that post's reply?Updated, it eventually does show on Mastodon

Update: My reply does show on the original Mastodon thread now, just took over an hour to get there!
So I guess my question is why does it take so long?hmm last time it only took seconds for me... so, I am not sure if 1 hour is normal...

I also have another question:
What determines who's mastodon posts go into the World(All) feed?
For example if I make a post from Mastodon using my (non-nodebb) Mastodon account, it never shows in World,
So do some people opt-in, and how?I believe it is all the people/accounts that are followed by any of the forum users...
It looks like julian is following many people, I guess they are mostly from his list...

Thanks @crazycells, that explains that.
If I want to follow someone, for example my own mastodon account ( @[email protected] ), how can I type that in to follow it?
Ive tried to enter it somewhere but cant! -

Ive tried to enter it somewhere but cant!you should type it after https://community.nodebb.org/user/
so, it will be:

Great stuff.
I think I can forsee a problem though ...
as this sets me up as a (new) user on here too
every followed mastodon account creates a new nodebb account to represent it!
in time, wont every forum then get thousand / millions of user accounts created and take up the database? -
@eeeee I am not sure if they are really considered a user for the calculations... they only show up when you search for it..
for example I follow 3 people, only 1 of them is a real nodebb user, so if you look at the info, it looks like I follow "1" user, but the /following page shows all 3 users...

@eeeee but since you mentioned the user search, I believe eventually we will be able to search any mastodon user directly on the forum, right @julian ? This is how it works for other mastodon servers... But I tried it here, and cannot see the profile in search results if no one is following that user...
how will this work after complete integration?
-
and now Im trying to follow you, is there a quicker way that typing https://community.nodebb.org/user etc, in a post so I can click on it?
https://community.nodebb.org/user/[email protected]
Maybe Im getting confused, but the usual 'follow' on Nodebb is different than the Fediverse follow?
-
hmm, but I would assume these two links would show the same profile... but it is not... ( @julian ?)
-
@eeeee once someone is following that profile, afterwards you can find them here through search function: https://community.nodebb.org/users
-
@crazycells @eeeee currently you have to manipulate the URL to find a user. That's obviously not the best UX so it will be addressed soon.
Likewise with remote post content. You should be able to paste links to remote posts directly into the search bar.
-
@eeeee hmmm I don’t know? I’m able to interact with the reply button and that allows me to reply to a thread w/o having to visit a special URL. Is there something I’m missing? Happy to help figure it out.
-
@[email protected] Thanks, yes I could follow you with a click, as you posted on this forum.
The previous example was following a Mastodon account which wasn't posting on here, so effectively had to use the URL to search for that user -
Updated, it eventually does show on Mastodon
Yes, as to when it shows up on the other site is dependent on a variety of factors, some sites are quite busy and they take awhile to process their queue/backlog of activities.
